Facts

A study from 4,782 women who all had a close family risk from high blood pressure participated in the program
from 2000 to 2005. The average age of the women was 54 years old.

There were three groups: 718 women with no history of  high blood pressure up to six months after their  pregnancy;
3,421 women who had normal blood pressure; and 643 women who had hypertension during pregnancy. White,
Black, Hispanic and Japanese women were used in this study. Most had a close relative with high blood pressure.
Women with hypertension during pregnancy had twice the risk of health issues as those who had normal pressure
during pregnancy. The same group also had 1.5 times the risk of heart attack and high blood pressure after the age
40, a study found.
Those women who suffered from high blood pressure during pregnancy increased there chances of developing
protein albumin in their urine, which can be a sign of early kidney disease.
As you get older, the risk of having high blood pressure is more prevalent, but a study found out that it affected
women earlier who had experienced the condition during pregnancy. In women with a history of high blood
pressure in pregnancy, about half of them had high blood pressure by the age of 52. In women with normal
hypertension pregnancies, half of them had high blood pressure by the age the 60.
The findings of a study, as well as other recent programs that came to the same conclusions, differed from past
studies and conclusions. The research and other recent studies suggest the risks and problems of
pregnancy-related high blood pressure lasted longer and are more serious than once thought.
Exactly why the high blood pressure adds risks later in life isn't yet known, but the conditions may share the same
factors such as are in obesity. The women who had high blood pressure during pregnancy were more likely to be
obese than those women who did not have hypertension.

The high blood pressure during pregnancy may cause blood vessels problems, leading to cardiovascular
problems later in life.
Doctors should notify women what their blood pressure status is during pregnancies at their routine examinations.
It's going to set a new tone for us for evaluating risk factors for heart disease for women. What is really important
about studies is that we are starting to look at women's health throughout their whole life. For a long time, we
thought conditions during pregnancy were only temporary and had no effect on their health later in life.

HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE IN WOMEN  DURING

Women who have high blood pressure during pregnancy have a higher risk of heart, stroke and kidney disease
later in life.
High blood pressure in pregnancy appears to be a risk factor for cardiovascular disease. About 10 percent of
pregnancies are affected by high blood pressure.
