Doctors agree that there should be medical treatment of low blood pressure if there are symptoms like
dizziness, fainting, blurred vision, nausea, fatigue and shallow breathing.
Low blood pressure may be due to medications or other causes like the ones listed below.

•        Blood vessels that are not narrowed
•        Weak heart muscles
•        Blocked blood flow due to heart disease
•        Drugs taken to regulate high blood pressure (hypertension)
•        Over–the–counter medications that contain antihistamines
•         Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia)
•        Pregnancy
•        Underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism)
•        Diabetes
•        Heat stroke or heat exhaustion
•        Overactive Thyroid (hyperthyroidism)
•        Various types of heart disease
•        Crash diets
•        Anemia (due to bleeding, lack of iron, folic acid or vitamin B-12)
An electrocardiogram (EKG) and an echocardiogram are tests that are essential in valuating whether the low
blood pressure is life threatening or in need of lifestyle changes or simply a change in medication.

Treatment depends almost entirely on the underlying cause of low blood pressure. In some cases, a physician
may prescribe medication either to raise the blood pressure. An increase in salt in your diet may be prescribed.
Sometimes treatment is not necessary because the kidneys can balance low blood retain salt and water, so
that it will increase blood volume and allow the heart to work more effectively.  People are encouraged to speak
to their physicians if they have had low blood pressure readings or related symptoms.
